Macgillycuddy family papers, 1889-1891.

The Macgillycuddy family papers consists of letters, legal documents, a will, and pamphlets documenting family bankruptcy and marriage. It includes the marriage settlement of Denis Charles Macgillycuddy of Macgillycuddy Reeks, County Kerry, Ireland as well as 30 letters, from his lawyers (1889-1891) concerning the "embarrassing affairs" of the estate of Mr. Macgillycuddy. Six additional letters outline his refusal to borrow money, anticipating the benefit of his brother John's marriage to an heiress. The collection also contains a ten-page pamphlet, "Ireland's Opportunity: Self-Help for Ireland," authored by Macgillycuddy and Arthur Warren, reprinted in the Boston Herald in 1891, a two-page pamphlet by Macgillycuddy on the subject of "co-operation of all the fisherman in Ireland," and two letters from Sir Morell, a physician who specializes in throat diseases.
